The Camino, Stage 11 — June 8, 2025: Requejo to Lubian (17 km)

21°C — Blue skies

By Laurel

It was an uphill effort today as we trekked into the Sierra de la Culebra Mountains towards the windmills.  But the effort was well worth it, thanks to shady green paths, beautiful old trees with moss-covered trunks and leafy branches, gurgling brooks, birds singing us along, and pretty vistas.  Being in the woods here reminded us that we are very close to Galicia now.  A gas station/hotel was nicely situated to give us a great spot for a coffee and snack mid-morning.  In good time, we arrived at the village of Lubian, long and narrow on the side of a very big hill/mountain.  We popped in to the Municipal Albergue, but as it has only twelve beds and only top bunks remained, we followed pilgrim Frank to Casa de Irene just up the street and managed to procure the “Laurel” Room — it was meant to be!

The village grocery store was only open for one hour today, so we made sure to be there on time

  1. I hope they gave you a good deal on the room when you told them it was named after you. What beautiful scenery.
