This year we have decided to begin our trek by exploring a route on the Southwest coast of Portugal known as the Rota Vicentina or the Fishermen's Trail. We will begin our walk in the fishing village of Porto Covo, meander along the coast to Cabo de São Vicente, around the cape, and finish in Lagos. Averaging 20 km/day will bring us to completion in 11 days.
The path has been recommended to us by fellow walkers who rave about the beaches, ocean vistas, seafood, and tranquil stretches.
We are on our way to Zamora, Spain to volunteer in the municipal Albergue for two weeks, before walking the Camino Sanabrés to Santiago de Compostella. However, we won't rush; we've planned for extended stops in Seville, Granada, Córdoba, Mérida, and Salamanca.
