The Camino, Stage 5 — June 2, 2025: Montamarta to Granja de Moreruela (24 km)

This was a pleasant walk, not so hot as yesterday and with legs a bit more tuned up for the distance.  As we strode past the cereal and forage crops and the occasional pig barn (with pungent odors), I was reminded of Saskatchewan around Outlook, and also of the meseta that we had walked through on the Camino Frances with Betty a few years ago.  Sure enough, the internet confirmed that this is on the western end of the meseta.  We saw a few more pilgrims on the trail along the way, as well as in the bar in Granja.  Some folks were familiar and some were new to us.  There isn’t much in the way of services in this town, but luckily there was one bar open today and it served lunch — menu del dia (pasta or lentil soup to start, chicken or pork with salad as the main course, plus dessert or coffee, and a glass of wine).  Our accommodation is in a guest house which was an old decrepit house that was fully renovated and is stylishly decorated in an eclectic fashion with several retro and antique items — very nice and makes us feel like we are in the set of a Wes Anderson film.
